The first motorcycle tour company in Australia to achieve Ecotourism Australia’s global best practice standard ECO Certification in 2006, and now the first motorcycle tour company to complete the Strive 4 Sustainability Scorecard, Cape York Motorcycle Adventures on Gimuy-walubarra yidi Country in north Queensland takes the approach that there are always new ways to strive for tourism sustainability.

“After 33 years in business, I like to undertake all sorts of new programs to stay fresh and adapt to new ideas,” stated Cape York Motorcycle Adventures Director, Renae Kunda. “I think it’s important for all businesses to evaluate their sustainability performance and take steps to become more environmentally and socially responsible.”

Cape York Motorcycle Adventures make it their responsibility to protect the environment and give back to the local community they depend on, for the future of their tourism industry and to keep introducing thrill-seekers to their unique part of Queensland.

To do this, collaboration is key, which is why they provide fundraising assistance to Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre and Containers for Change, while measuring their emissions with climate action company Climate Friendly. Cape York Motorcycle Adventures is also heavily involved in their local community and seeks to make a difference where they can, providing financial and volunteer support to local sporting clubs, programs helping community members, and a number of other foundations.

By taking the Strive 4 Sustainability Scorecard, they were able to reflect on and be proud of these achievements while learning new ways to create a more sustainable operation.

“The Strive 4 Sustainability Scorecard has provided us with several helpful insights, mainly by revealing opportunities for improvement in our sustainability practices that we hadn’t considered before, therefore helping us to better meet the needs and expectations of our community and stakeholders.”
